Volunteer With Us

Volunteering at Sandton SPCA is a fulfilling way to make a positive impact. We offer various volunteer opportunities that suit different skills and schedules. Whether you’re helping with animal care, fundraising, or community outreach, your involvement makes a difference. Join our team of dedicated volunteers today.

 

Volunteer Opportunities :

Animal Enrichment

The Animal Enrichment Programme is a volunteer programme and focuses on caring for our Puppies and Dogs and Kittens and Cats, giving them your time and love whilst we try and find them a new forever family and home. The Programme runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 09h00 to 12h00 / 12h30.  You can choose to be with Puppies and Dogs or Kittens and Cats, or both.

Puppies and Dogs:  If you choose to spend your time with Puppies and Dogs, we take the Dogs out to a play area where we walk, run, play and brush them.  We also try and socialise and stimulate them mentally with a few basic activities.  We spend time with the puppies in their kennels, important for socialising them.  Our dogs are many different breeds and sizes and you should be quite physically strong and fit to handle them.   You will certainly be doing a good amount of walking and or running during the session……

Kittens and Cats:  If you choose Kittens and Cats, we play, stroke and brush them. It is a requirement that you acquire and dress in personal protective equipment (PPE) for interactions with cats and kittens in order to protect them from infections.  

IMPORTANT: It is beneficial if you are able to commit and come regularly, either Wednesdays or Saturdays or both, whatever suits you,  as you get to know the animals and can assist with suitable adoptions and their well-being.  If you wish to only gain your community service hours, it is suggested that you apply for the Community Service Programme.  Volunteering is unpaid.  You have to be at least 18 years and older.

Once you have joined, you will also learn of other exciting opportunities for you to get involved with.  We look forward to your joining The Team and promise you many hours during which you can make a difference in the lives of the animals in our care.

 

Charity Shops

Volunteer at Our Charity & Book Shops! 

Would you like to make a difference in the lives of animals while surrounded by good books and friendly people? Our charity shops—The Charity and Book Shop  at the Sandton SPCA and The Book Nook in the Morning Glen Mall —rely on dedicated volunteers to help us raise much-needed funds. Every sale supports our animal welfare efforts.

💡 Please Note: While volunteering in our shops, you will not be interacting directly with animals. Instead, you will be helping us raise vital funds to support their care and well-being.

  • You are comfortable being on your feet for several hours

Markets

Volunteer at Our Fundraising Markets! 🌟

Join us at the vibrant Rosebank Rooftop Market on the last Sunday of every month to help raise essential funds for our animal welfare efforts! From 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, we sell new and second-hand items generously donated by the public to the public. Your time and dedication make all the difference!

💡 Please Note:

  • This is an unpaid position with no stipend or travel allowance—your time is a heartfelt gift to our cause.
  • Markets are held monthly, but ad hoc markets may also take place throughout the year, where we will need your help.
  • You do not have to be available for the entire duration, but we appreciate any time you can offer.

Events

Volunteer at Our Sandton SPCA Fundraising Events! 

Help us make our fundraising events a success! From Spin-A-Thons and Golf Days to Gift Wrapping (in December each year)  and other organised events, your support is essential. Events may be held on-site at the SPCA premises or off-site at various locations.

💡 Please Note:

  • This is an unpaid position with no stipend or travel allowance—your time is a valuable contribution to our cause
  • You will not be interacting with animals during these events but will be raising crucial funds to support their care and welfare
  • Events are held throughout the year, so we welcome ad hoc availability

✅ Volunteer here if:

  • You are friendly, approachable and enjoy interacting with people
  • You are comfortable being on your feet for extended periods
  • You can handle transactions, including using a card machine and managing cash
  • You are reliable, enthusiastic and willing to make a positive impact
